Gay Patriot: "As we remember that history, let’s find another means to honor gay and lesbian veterans. And let us do so in a way that shows their sexuality was incidental to their service to our great nation."
I love that idea. Having served with at least one gay Airman and knowing more than a couple of gay veterans, I think this would be a great idea, especially in the context that Gay Patriot suggests, ie. "... And let us do so in a way that shows their sexuality was incidental to their service to our great nation." For the people I know their sexuality WAS incidental to their service (Oh, and "a great way to meet women...") and I think this selflessness on the part of so many gay servicemen and women is noble and deserving of a level of respect commensurate with that sacrifice. Sacrifices are made by GIs from the day they choose to serve. A greater sacrifice is made by gays who choose to serve and who may be called on to make the same ultimate sacrifice as other GIs.
PS: Granted that for some, many, more gays; not being flamboyant and in your face is not difficult and is not much of a sacrifice, but they still sacrifice that right along with many others.
