An emotional moment and a misunderstanding - Hurricane Katrina - MSNBC.com: "“The pathetic thing in this case was that they were asked if they wanted to move them and they did not,” Louisiana Attorney General Charles Foti said Tuesday."
See now, for me the "pathetic thing" is that with the storm coming some people chose to ignore their own parents and leave them there. Of the people who got out, I'd bet that some of them got out because their family loved them enough (and their family was unselfish enough) to go get them and evacuate their parents along with themselves. I have to wonder Rodrigue and his family were when the storm hit and the flooding started. I can understand that he couldn't get mom after the flooding, but if he thought it was so critical that the home be evacuated (and it was) why didn't he evacuate her himself, or have family take her?
Ku'u kupuna are lucky. Culturally we would be stigmatized for abandoning them.
